The Immunology Day Centre (IDC) is located in Ward 34, Elliott Dynes Building, on The Royal Hospitals site. The IDC is used to undertake allergy procedures and deliver treatments. Some outpatient clinics also operate from IDC. These services are listed below:
Immunoglobuin infusions
Immunglobulin home therapy training
Biologic infusion clinics
Drug allergy clinic
Venom desensitisation clinics
Pollen desensitisation clinics
Allergen challenge testing
Allergy skin prick testing
Urticaria clinic
We also collaborate with ambulatory units/day hospitals around the province to enable you to receive treatments such as immunoglobulin replacement therapy closer to home. These options can be discussed with you if you commence treatment that requires regular visits to the IDC.
What can you expect when you arrive at the Immunology Day Centre?
The immunology day centre is divided into four areas:
Immunology Bay used for nurse led immunoglobulin replacement therapy clinics
Child friendly bay with toys and games
Allergy Bay
Two side rooms are available for clinical review and infection control
Attendances at the IDC are normally booked in advance. You will be greeted by IDC administrative staff who will register your attendance, and direct you to your scheduled clinic.
Many Immunology day centre clinics are nurse led. Nursing staff will assess you and initiate your regular treatment. Medical staff are not routinely available at these clinics.
If you cannot attend your scheduled appointment please let nursing or administration staff know as soon as possible so that the slot may be given to someone else.
Everything possible is done to keep waiting times to a minimum however, delays can occur. You can help us by attending at your appointed time.
If you attend early we may not be able to see you until your appointment time.
In certain circumstances, patients may be seen in order of clinical need rather than appointment time.
